Ugly Dumpling, the fast-casual restaurant chain known for its Shanghai-inspired soup dumplings, has officially opened its first Morris County location at 1711 Route 10 in the Briarcliff Commons shopping center in Morris Plains.
The restaurant occupies a 5,654-square-foot space that was previously home to Harmon, the health and beauty chain that closed after its parent company filed for bankruptcy. The location joins a lineup of tenants at Briarcliff Commons that includes Uncle Giuseppe’s, Chipotle, Crumbl, First Watch, Chick-fil-A, and Chopt.
Ugly Dumpling’s menu centers on handcrafted xiao long bao, the classic Chinese soup dumpling filled with rich broth, along with dim sum, wontons, noodle bowls, wok dishes, bubble tea, and desserts. The Morris Plains spot is also the first Ugly Dumpling location to serve ramen. Options for vegetarian and vegan diners are available as well.
Originally founded in Edison, the chain has grown to nearly two dozen locations across New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, and several other states. It is owned by the Vertex Group, which also operates KPot Hot Pot and Hook & Reel. The Morris Plains location is open daily from 11:00 AM to 10:00 PM, with extended hours until 10:30 PM on Fridays and Saturdays.
