Boonton, NJ-based Bear Minimum continues its sustainable living with reduced environmental impacts. Bear Minimum’s motivation behind its mission is the beautiful earth we are privileged to live on. Inspired by the beauty of the planet and by the responsibilities of being a mom, Bear Minimum’s founder embarked on a mission to create a store that prioritizes eco-friendly and sustainable living. Her journey started with paying close attention to the ingredients and materials coming into her home, thus committing to providing safer and more sustainable alternatives in personal care and home cleaning products.
Eco-Friendly Products at Bear Minimum
Bear Minimum offers a wide range of products designed for everyday needs, keeping in mind the minimal environmental impact. The store has tree-free toilet paper, refillable shampoo or conditioner, and many plastic-free kitchen items. Walls and shelves are full of handmade creations, making great gifts.

Commitment to Sustainability
Bear Minimum’s commitment to sustainability starts with the packaging. This store is a low-waste establishment with little or no plastic in the products’ packaging. If you find plastic, it can be left at the store for proper recycling through one of their recycling programs. Next, all product ingredients are carefully vetted to ensure they are non-toxic. The business also considers where the product is manufactured and likes to source domestically as much as possible to avoid transportation and thus reduce the carbon footprint.

Popular Products at Bear Minimum
Bear Minimum offers customers various popular items for refills, such as dish & hand soaps, laundry powder, and liquid. Other best-sellers in everyday essentials are shampoo and conditioner bars, deodorant, Swedish dishcloths, dishwasher tablets, bar soap, toothbrushes, paperless towels, and toilet paper.
How Bear Minimum’s Refillery System Works
Bear Minimum’s refillery system is very simplistic yet highly beneficial to both the environment and consumers. Customers take their containers, tare the weight to ensure they only pay for the product, fill their containers with the desired amount, weigh them again, and then pay by the ounce. Through this process, many new plastic bottles would not need to be made, reducing landfill waste and easing demand for new product manufacturing.

Bear Minimum’s Workshops and Community Events
Bear Minimum is not just a store but a community hub. The store regularly hosts in-house sustainability and community-building events, providing space for people to come together, learn, and smile. Community is at the heart of sustainability, and Bear Minimum works toward building this sense of togetherness.
Future Initiatives for Greater Impact
Bear Minimum aims to include locally sourced dried goods and food in the future, emphasizing supporting local farmers. The ultimate vision is to offer a complete marketplace for goods created, sourced, and sustainably packaged at the most hyper-local level possible. Of course, the competition with big-box stores is a struggle. However, Bear Minimum has yet to stray from the vision. Through a loyal customer base that continues to grow, the store will offer educational workshops and community events, keeping the dollars within the community and encouraging responsible consumption.
Bear Minimum is more than a store; it’s a movement of people demanding change towards a more sustainable future. At the store, reducing environmental impact through eco-friendly practices creates a community dedicated to our planet’s health. The sustainable goods marketplace makes small, conscious changes that bring high-impact results and exists to pave the path forward so that living sustainably remains at the top of mind and in action.
