The first cold mornings of fall are the best excuse all year to book a day spa. Luckily, Morris County has a lot of them, from a 23 year old holistic retreat with its own salt room to a boutique Madison spa tucked down an alley off Waverly Place. We went through treatment menus, published prices and recent client reviews to find the spas locals keep going back to for massage, facials and a few hours of quiet.

The Urban Muse (Denville)
The Urban Muse has been part of downtown Denville for 23 years, and it is the closest thing in the county to a full retreat day. The spa runs ten treatment rooms across two floors, two relaxation rooms with complimentary tea, a steam shower, a salt room that holds up to five guests and two private infrared saunas. Massage options include Swedish, deep tissue, prenatal, reflexology and warm stone, and the fall menu is leaning into the season: the Pumpkin Perfection Facial runs $166 for 60 minutes, and the Pumpkin Harvest Body Ritual is $179 for 90 minutes. Beneath the Surface Spa (Madison)
You have to know where to look for this one. Beneath the Surface sits at the end of the Waverly Lane alley in downtown Madison, and it has been a local favorite for more than 14 years. Founder Marcia Mehrali is a licensed esthetician, and the menu shows it: HydraFacials, microcurrent, microchanneling, LED light therapy, dermaplaning and peels, alongside massage therapy and a Japanese head spa that pairs scalp massage with aromatherapy. Spavia Greater Morristown (Cedar Knolls)
Spavia is built for the classic spa day: plush robes, sandals and retreat rooms to decompress in before and after your treatment. The massage menu publishes every price, starting with a Signature Massage at $119 for 60 minutes. The standout is the Salt Stone Massage ($139 for 60 minutes), which swaps traditional hot stones for hand carved Himalayan salt stones. There is also a dedicated couples room, with couples massages from $238 for an hour, and this fall’s seasonal treatments include a Golden Apple Glow Facial and an Orchard Spice Scalp Melt. Suzi’s Salon, Spa and Wellness (Morristown)
Suzi’s is the one stop option on South Street, pairing a full hair salon with a spa floor for facials, body wraps, massage, electrolysis and lash extensions. Owner Suzi Mack has spent 30 years in skincare education and staff training, and the facials are built around Eminence Organics, the Hungarian organic skincare line. That makes it an easy place to turn a haircut into a half day, or to get a whole bridal party ready at once. Start at Suzi’s Salon, Spa and Wellness to book. Suzi’s is at 126 South Street, Morristown, NJ 07960, and is open seven days a week, with evening hours Tuesday through Thursday.
ANEW DAWN Beauty and Balance (Randolph)
ANEW DAWN is where you go when you want the newest skin and recovery technology in a calm, small spa setting. The headline is a LightStim LED Bed, a full body red and near infrared light session with 18,240 LEDs, at $75 for 40 minutes. The facial menu is just as deep and fully priced: the ANEW DAWN Signature Facial ($135) includes a warm stone massage, the GLO2Facial is $155, and the Sculpt and Lift ($245) draws on the practitioner’s 29 years of experience. LiLy Day Spa (Chester)
LiLy is the easygoing, affordable pick out west, a short walk from the shops on Chester’s Main Street. Massage starts at $45 for a 30 minute Swedish and runs up to $135 for a 90 minute deep tissue, and a 60 minute hot stone massage is $90. Couples are welcome, foot reflexology starts at just $15 for 10 minutes, and regulars can prepay five massages for 10 percent off. LiLy also does facials, waxing and a wide eyelash extension menu.
