About a year ago, Career Carnival for Kids launched an exciting series of “Careers That Create Change” events, each designed to “spark career curiosity” about a specific career cluster. The series kicked off at Parsippany Library with a STEAM-focused program that highlighted careers in science, technology, engineering, art, and math.
Building on this initial success, Career Carnival for Kids expanded the series in the spring of 2024 to cover Public Safety and Service (Morristown and Morris Township Library), Health and Wellness (Parsippany Library), and Environmental (Lincoln Park Library) careers.
They then brought this innovative approach to career exploration to the Library of the Chathams on September 14 with another outstanding STEAM Careers That Create Change event.
So far, this new series has introduced over 550 kids and families in Morris County to diverse career paths with exciting hands-on activities, demos, and games.
Sparking Career Curiosity in Chatham NJ
More than 150 kids, families, and Career Guides came together for STEAM Careers That Create Change, where they learned about land development with Langan, airport operations with MMU Morristown Airport, and crime scene investigations with National CSI Camp and the Morris County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO).
H2M architects + engineers introduced them to water resources engineering, while AIA – NJ EPiC and American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) challenged their creativity and building skills.

Picatinny Arsenal STEM put product design and development on the table – literally – with an exceptional display; MCSO officers exposed kids to the crucial gear they use to protect our communities; and Morris County Mosquito Control wowed everyone with an up-close look at the pests they study and manage.
Kids not only solved puzzles with Parsippany Cube Club and operated a robot with CS Base / Chatham High School FTC Robotics but – whether they realized it or not – they also met ambitious high school students who started their own organizations as teenagers.
Finally, they met a “four-footed professional” from the MCSO K9 unit and Morris 4H’s team of three guinea pigs.
Career Carnival for Kids is grateful to event sponsors BASF, H2M architects + engineers, Langan, National CSI Camp, AIA NJ EPiC, Langan, MMU Morristown Airport, and Delta Dental of NJ/CT and to the Library of the Chathams for helping to make STEAM Careers That Create Change free and accessible to everyone.
The Career Carnival for Kids Difference
What makes a Career Carnival for Kids event unique? Kids are active participants! These programs are designed to be interactive, and that’s one of the biggest draws.
Importantly, Career Carnival for Kids partners with enthusiastic Career Guides – professionals from local companies and organizations as well as accomplished high school and college students – who inspire and encourage young attendees. They offer real-world activities and challenges and engage in career conversations that make a lasting impression on both kids and parents.
And with a focus on kids aged 8 to 14, these programs introduce career concepts in a fun, engaging way long before kids are under any pressure to make decisions about college, apprenticeships, or anything else.
