SubscribeDowntown Chatham has a new place to grab a cheesesteak. Ori’s Cheesesteaks opened on Saturday, August 15 at 231 Main Street, bringing handcrafted cheesesteaks, loaded fries, and hand-spun milkshakes to the center of the borough.
The shop comes from a familiar name in town. Husband-and-wife team Usman and Amena Chaudhry are the founders behind Namkeen Hot Chicken Joint and Chashni Café, and Ori’s is the third concept they have built together. It sits right next door to Namkeen, in the former Chashni Café space on Main Street.
What’s on the menu
Ori’s keeps things simple and focused. The menu is built around handcrafted cheesesteaks made with premium ingredients and house-made sauces, served alongside loaded fries and hand-spun milkshakes. Along with the classic, there is a spicier Ori cheesesteak and a barbecue version for anyone who wants to branch out. Like Namkeen and Chashni before it, Ori’s serves halal.
The name is personal. According to the family, the restaurant is named after the couple’s son, Orhan. “As a family-owned business, many of the things we create are deeply personal to us, and Ori’s is no different,” the owners said.
A growing local family of restaurants
The Chaudhrys have built a real track record in Chatham and beyond. Namkeen, which started six years ago and blends Nashville hot chicken with bold Pakistani flavors, now has locations across New Jersey, New York, Georgia, and Canada. Chashni Café opened in Chatham in 2022 as a Pakistani American brunch spot and continues to operate in Montclair.
“This isn’t your average cheesesteak. Every ingredient, every recipe, and every detail has been thoughtfully considered,” said Usman Chaudhry. The team has said additional Ori’s Cheesesteaks locations are on the way, though details on where and when have not been announced.
Ori’s Cheesesteaks is open now at 231 Main Street in Chatham, next door to Namkeen.
