Bottle Hill Day returns to downtown Madison on Saturday, October 3, 2026, running from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Madison’s annual street festival reaches its 51st year in 2026, and this year’s theme is Celebrating America’s 250th.

The festival is free and open to the public, and it is the biggest single day on Madison’s calendar. In a typical year it pulls somewhere between 10,000 and 20,000 people into the borough’s downtown, which is serious foot traffic for a town Madison’s size.

The Madison Downtown Development Commission organizes the day, and the footprint stretches across six blocks. This year’s lineup includes more than 225 vendors, a mix of nonprofit organizations, crafters, and retail businesses, alongside sidewalk sales from the Main Street shops that stay open through the afternoon.

Music is a real part of the day rather than background noise. Four stages run live, family-friendly performances throughout, with a lineup that leans heavily on Madison’s own musicians and performing arts groups. Three amusement areas handle the kids.

Food is spread across the festival instead of concentrated in one corner, with vendors throughout the footprint and local restaurants open along the route. In recent years the commission has also run a beer garden on Kings Road and a park-and-ride shuttle from the Madison Community Pool into the center of town. The name goes back a lot further than the festival. Madison was established in 1715 as a village called Bottle Hill, and the festival itself started in 1974 under Mayor Elizabeth Baumgartner as a way to promote the business district. It has grown into a full community celebration since.

Several streets close for the day. In past years that has included stretches of Waverly Place, Central Avenue, Kings Road, and Green Village Road, with Main Street staying open and the municipal lots available for parking.
