County College of Morris is opening its doors, and its Zoom room, to the public this fall. The Legacy Project at CCM returns with three free events between October 6 and December 3, 2026, all built around one theme: New Jersey. The talks run on the CCM campus at 214 Center Grove Road in Randolph or online, and anyone in the community is welcome.
This is the program’s 14th year. The fall lineup covers Garden State music, a Newark neighborhood story told on film, and a lunchtime book discussion on the country’s founders, which feels right in the year Morris County is marking America’s 250th.
October 6: The History of Popular Music in New Jersey (Zoom)
The series opens on Tuesday, October 6, at 6 p.m. with a virtual talk by Dewar MacLeod, a history professor at William Paterson University. MacLeod wrote “Making the Scene in the Garden State: Popular Music in New Jersey from Edison to Springsteen and Beyond,” so expect a tour from the phonograph labs to the Jersey Shore bar scene.
This one is online only. To get the Zoom link, email legacy@ccm.edu.
November 10: “The Sacrifice Zone” Screening and Q&A
On Tuesday, November 10, at 12:30 p.m., CCM screens “The Sacrifice Zone” in Cohen Hall, room 124. The documentary follows Maria Lopez-Nuñez and her work for cleaner, healthier living conditions in Newark’s Ironbound district. Director Julie Winokur joins by Zoom after the film for a question and answer session.
December 3: “Founding Brothers” Lunch Discussion
The series wraps on Thursday, December 3, at 12:30 p.m. with a discussion of select stories from “Founding Brothers: The Revolutionary Generation,” the Pulitzer Prize winning book by historian Joseph J. Ellis. It takes place in the Learning Resource Center Café, and lunch is provided. RSVP ahead of time to legacy@ccm.edu and you may receive the specific pages to read before you come.
