Pequannock Township residents have a chance to explore local wildlife and test stream health at the annual MiniBioBlitz and Family Critter Search, coming to PV Park on Saturday, May 30, 2026.
The event is hosted by the Pequannock Environmental Commission and the AmeriCorps Watershed Ambassadors Program of New Jersey. Two sessions are scheduled: an adult-focused session from 8:00 am to 9:00 am and a family session from 9:30 am to 11:30 am.
During the sessions, participants walk around Woodland Lake to identify plants, birds, and other animals in an annual survey of what belongs in the local ecosystem and what does not. The family session also includes a hands-on activity where kids and adults inspect and sort macro-invertebrates, small creatures pulled from nearby Meyer’s Brook, to learn what their presence indicates about the stream’s water quality.
Participants should meet in the rear parking lot of PV Park off Marvin Road. Minors must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Sessions begin on time and run approximately 90 minutes. The walk covers up to one mile on flat but uneven terrain, trails may be muddy, and ticks may be active, so organizers recommend long sleeves, pants, and shoes with socks, along with bug spray and water.
Registration is opening soon on the Pequannock Township website at peqtwp.org.
