Rockaway Township is inviting neighbors from every town, faith, and walk of life to gather for a solemn candlelight vigil marking the 25th anniversary of September 11. The remembrance takes place on Friday, September 11, 2026, at 7:00 p.m. at the Park Lake Gazebo in Rockaway Township.
Twenty-five years after the attacks of September 11, 2001, the community will come together by the water to read aloud the names of the Morris County residents who lost their lives that day. Rockaway Township is opening the evening to everyone, and residents from all surrounding communities are encouraged to attend.
Those who come out are invited to light a candle, share a moment of silence, and honor both the lives lost and the first responders who ran toward the scene to rescue and save so many. It is a chance to stand together and make sure the promise to never forget still holds a generation later.
The vigil will be held at the Park Lake Gazebo, the same lakeside spot that hosts the township’s free Sunday summer concerts, trading a warm-weather soundtrack for a quieter night of reflection. It follows a season of community gatherings in Rockaway Township, from summer festivals to the Vietnam Veterans Moving Wall that drew crowds to town earlier this summer.
The 9/11 candlelight vigil is free and open to the public on Friday, September 11, 2026, beginning at 7:00 p.m. at Park Lake in Rockaway Township.
