The Mount Tabor Historical Society is opening the doors of more than 15 Victorian cottages on Saturday, September 26, 2026, for the 31st Annual Mount Tabor House Tour. The self-guided, walkable tour runs from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Mount Tabor section of Parsippany-Troy Hills, rain or shine, and every ticket supports the historical society.

Mount Tabor began in 1869 as a Methodist camp meeting, and the tents that once filled its wooded hillside gave way to rows of small, brightly painted gingerbread cottages. Today the neighborhood is a historic district on the National Register of Historic Places. Most of the year, visitors can only admire these “dollhouses” from the sidewalk. Tour day is the one chance to walk inside, see how homeowners have restored and decorated them, and stroll through their gardens between stops.

The ticket covers much more than the cottages. Guests can explore the Richardson History House, the society’s museum, and step into the Camp Meeting Tent, a furnished living history replica staffed by costumed interpreters who explain what summers at the camp meeting looked like. A quilt exhibition fills the 1885 Tabernacle, and every guest receives a self-guided tour booklet with a map so you can set your own pace.

Flyer for the 31st Annual Mount Tabor House Tour on Saturday, September 26, 2026, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., $35 in advance and $40 on tour day

Advance tickets are $35, plus a $2 processing fee when you buy online, and online sales close at midnight on Thursday, September 24. You can also order by mail from the Mount Tabor Historical Society, House Tour, P.O. Box 271, Mount Tabor, NJ 07878, as long as payment arrives by Saturday, September 19. Tickets on tour day are $40 at the welcome table near the Old Firehouse on Simpson Avenue, which is also where the tour begins. All sales are final.

Parking is at Mount Tabor Elementary School, 864 Park Road. A free shuttle runs continuously from 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and drops guests off near check-in. Since the tour covers the district on foot, comfortable walking shoes are a smart call.

Questions can go to the Mount Tabor Historical Society at 973-975-0001 or mths@mounttabornj.org. If you have ever driven past these cottages and wondered what they look like inside, September 26 is the day to find out.
