The Morris County Park Commission is hosting A Victorian Thanksgiving at Historic Speedwell in Morristown on Saturday, November 14, 2026, from 9:30 AM to noon. Guests help recreate 19th century Thanksgiving dishes the old way, cooked over an open hearth fire at the historic site at 333 Speedwell Avenue.
It is one of the more hands-on ways to get into the holiday spirit in Morris County this month. Registration is required and space at a hearth is limited, so sign up early if you want in.

Why Historic Speedwell
Speedwell was the Vail family’s iron works estate, and it is where Alfred Vail and Samuel Morse worked out the electromagnetic telegraph in the 1830s. Today the Park Commission runs it as a small village of preserved 19th century buildings, which makes it a natural setting for a Thanksgiving cooked the way families would have done it at the time. More Thanksgiving Programs at Morris County Parks
The Park Commission has a few more seasonal programs on the calendar this month:

- Hot Cider Walk, Sunday, November 22, with sessions at 11:00 AM and 1:00 PM at Fosterfields, 73 Kahdena Road, Morristown. A staff-led walk around the farm with apple cider, for all ages. $5 per person, registration required (973-326-7645).
- Turkey on Turkey on Turkey, Friday, November 27, 11:00 AM to noon from Pyramid Mountain Natural Historic Area, 472 Boonton Avenue. A ranger-guided hike up Turkey Mountain, across the street, to walk off Thanksgiving dinner. $8 per person, ages 8 and up with an adult (973-334-3130).
Fosterfields is worth a visit on its own, too. Here is our guide to Fosterfields Living Historical Farm, and for the full holiday rundown, see Thanksgiving in Morris County and things to do in Morris County this month.
