Morristown is famous for its history, but the town’s real heartbeat is the nonprofits that grow fresh food, teach adults to read, keep families housed and keep its museums buzzing. Our team at Shop Morris County rounded up 10 Morristown nonprofits and community groups worth knowing, supporting and volunteering with this season.
Every detail below comes from each group’s own website, so follow the links to donate, sign up or lend a hand.
1. Table of Hope

Table of Hope began in 2011, after Hurricane Irene destroyed the fellowship hall and kitchen of Bethel Church of Morristown, and it has grown into a 501(c)(3) working to enhance the quality of life for Morris County families. From 65 Spring Street it runs food distributions, a community kitchen and an annual Backpack Giveaway with County College of Morris. Volunteers can apply online, and its wish list includes foil pans, to-go containers, coffee and reusable grocery bags.
2. Morris Museum

The Morris Museum at 6 Normandy Heights Road traces its roots to 1913 and is the only Smithsonian Affiliate in New Jersey. It is home to the Guinness Collection of mechanical musical instruments, the 312-seat Bickford Theatre and Spark!Lab, a hands-on invention space for kids. Volunteers serve as docents, ushers, Spark!Lab ambassadors and visitor services greeters, and memberships start at $45 for seniors.
3. Macculloch Hall Historical Museum

Macculloch Hall Historical Museum, Morristown’s community museum, has preserved the 1810 mansion at 45 Macculloch Avenue since 1950. It holds the largest collection of work by cartoonist Thomas Nast, and its historic gardens, with wisteria dating to 1857, are free and open daily from 8 AM to dusk. The museum looks for garden volunteers, front desk ambassadors and education helpers, and student service hours are available from April through October.
4. Grow It Green Morristown

Grow It Green Morristown started in 2009, when three local women turned an abandoned lot into the Early Street Community Garden. Today it also runs the Urban Farm at 31 Hazel Street and donated more than 7,500 pounds of produce in 2025 to local pantries, including Table of Hope. Its farm stand accepts SNAP with Good Food Bucks doubling, and individuals, kids and corporate groups can all sign up to volunteer.
5. Family Promise of Morris County

Family Promise of Morris County has mobilized community resources to help families and individuals find stable housing since 1988. Its programs include shelter with dozens of partner congregations, housing vouchers, the Navigating Hope outreach van that covers all 39 Morris County towns, and the Our Promise Drop-In Resource Center at 51 Washington Street. In 2024 it served 149 families, and volunteers help with donation drives, kit assembly and one-day projects.
6. Literacy Volunteers of Morris County
Literacy Volunteers of Morris County provides free instruction to Morris County adults in literacy, English fluency and American culture from its office at 16 Elm Street. Volunteer tutors work one to one and in small groups on reading, writing, English as a second language, high school equivalency prep, basic math and citizenship preparation. Anyone 21 or older with a high school diploma can train to become a tutor through a short orientation and online modules.
7. Preschool Advantage
Preschool Advantage was founded in 1991 to give children a fair chance to succeed in life by paying preschool tuition for 3 and 4 year olds whose families cannot afford it. Children attend one of 32 partner preschools in Morris and Somerset counties, and the Morristown nonprofit has funded more than 1,600 children since it started. Volunteers help review applications, translate, staff events and serve on committees.
8. Plaid House
Plaid House has provided residential and supportive services to adolescents in Morristown since 1975, teaching skills that foster growth, independence and family reunification. The 501(c)(3) runs a group home, Thenen House for young women in transitional living and an Aging Out program that teaches life skills. Donations make a direct difference, and the site notes that $100 provides a welcome package for a new resident.
9. Morristown United Methodist Church
Morristown United Methodist Church has served the community for more than 200 years, and its 1870 building of local purple puddingstone stands on the Morristown Green at 50 South Park Place. The congregation runs Interfaith Food Pantry drives, including Thanksgiving baskets and a Reverse Advent Calendar, and has sent an Appalachia Service Project home repair trip for 36 years. Sunday worship is at 10:30 AM, and volunteers can sign up through ServeMUMC.org.
10. Refugee Assistance Morris Partners

Refugee Assistance Morris Partners, known as RAMP, was founded in 2016 by a coalition of Christian, Jewish and Muslim faith groups in Morris County. The volunteer-driven 501(c)(3) helps families settle into Morris County with housing, ESL, rides to appointments, school enrollment and job support, and it has welcomed 11 families so far. Volunteers and donations keep the work going.
