Four Morris County high school marching bands are New Jersey state champions. At the USBands New Jersey State Championships on Saturday, October 31, 2026, Roxbury, Pequannock Township, Montville Township and Jefferson Township each won their class, giving Morris County 4 of the 12 New Jersey state titles awarded that day, according to the official USBands results.
The championships were split across three host schools: South Brunswick High School (750 Ridge Road, South Brunswick), Mount Olive High School (18 Corey Road, Mount Olive) and Robbinsville High School (155 Robbinsville Edinburg Road, Robbinsville). We went through every class on all three score sheets, and Morris County bands finished in the top three nine times. The scores below come from the USBands results for South Brunswick, Mount Olive and Robbinsville.
Roxbury: Open Group III champion
Roxbury High School’s Marching Gaels scored 91.2 to win Open Group III at South Brunswick, ahead of Fair Lawn at 89.3. It was the highest score posted by any Morris County band at the championships. Roxbury’s 2026 show is “Keepers of the Light,” with music that includes Hozier’s “First Light” and Fall Out Boy’s “My Songs Know What You Did in the Dark,” under director Ryan Sweer, according to the band’s USBands program page.
Pequannock Township: Open Group II champion
Pequannock Township High School in Pompton Plains won Open Group II with 89.2, edging Absegami (88.2) and Cherokee (88.0) in a seven-band class at South Brunswick.
Montville Township: A Group I champion, and a Morris County sweep
A Group I belonged entirely to Morris County. Montville Township High School won with 86.4, Parsippany High School was second at 86.1 and West Morris Mendham High School was third at 84.1, out of eight bands in the class.
Jefferson Township: Regional A Group II champion
Jefferson Township High School in Oak Ridge won Regional A Group II at Mount Olive with 87.0, one tenth of a point ahead of Park Ridge at 86.9.
The other Morris County medalists
Morris Knolls High School in Rockaway placed second in A Group III with 91.1, less than a point behind Sparta (92.0) in the largest class of the day, 17 bands at Robbinsville. In A Group IV at Mount Olive, Morris Hills High School in Rockaway took second with 88.1 and the host, Mount Olive High School, was third with 88.0, both chasing Watchung Hills at 88.8. Morristown High School finished sixth in that class with 81.8.
In A Group II, three more Morris County programs made the state finals field: Parsippany Hills placed sixth (82.7), Butler eighth (80.8) and Hanover Park tenth (79.9).
By the numbers
Morris County’s four titles came in Open Group III (Roxbury), Open Group II (Pequannock Township), A Group I (Montville Township) and Regional A Group II (Jefferson Township). Add the second-place finishes by Parsippany, Morris Knolls and Morris Hills and the third-place finishes by West Morris Mendham and Mount Olive, and the county accounts for nine podium spots across the 12 New Jersey classes.
