1. Camp Marcella

Camp Marcella has given visually impaired children a safe, joyful camp experience since 1947, and it has been a project of New Jersey Lions Clubs ever since. The 200-plus acre camp at 27 Durham Road has a lake and 23 buildings adapted for campers with visual impairments, with summer sessions for youth, teens and young adults plus weekend mini-camps. Individuals and groups can volunteer, and Scout projects, Lions and Leo Clubs and corporate teams have all pitched in.
2. The CARE Center of New Jersey

The CARE Center of New Jersey works to create strong families and flourishing communities from its Rockaway campus at 140 Green Pond Road. Its Food for HOPE pantry provided more than 265,000 pounds of food to more than 7,000 families in 2025, and its 7th annual Thanksgiving giveaway is Saturday, November 21, 2026, from 8 AM to noon. The center also offers a free legal clinic, financial coaching and ESL classes, and volunteers are needed in the pantry, teaching kitchen and community garden.
3. Rockaway Food Closet at First Presbyterian Church

The Rockaway Food Closet is a registered 501(c)(3) inside the First Presbyterian Church of Rockaway, a congregation founded in 1758 at 35 Church Street. The Food Closet serves Rockaway Borough and Township on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:30 AM to 12:30 PM, plus Tuesdays from 4 to 6 PM. Drop off peanut butter, pasta, canned goods, soup or cereal during those hours, and catch the free RiseUp Community Breakfast on Saturday, November 28, from 8 to 11 AM.
4. Rockaway Township Education Foundation
The Rockaway Township Education Foundation funds innovative and creative education programs for Rockaway Township students from pre-K through 8th grade. Teachers apply for grants that pay for the extras a school budget cannot cover, and each one is reviewed by district leaders. The foundation welcomes donations through Venmo, offers business sponsor packages and holds meetings that are open to everyone.
5. Caring Partners of Morris & Sussex
Caring Partners of Morris & Sussex partners with children, families and communities to help kids overcome social, emotional and behavioral challenges. From its office at 100 Enterprise Drive, the nonprofit care management organization builds a family team and an individualized plan for each child, with 24-hour on-call support. Its 2026 holiday drive is underway, and neighbors can adopt a child or family, shop a wish list, donate gift cards or run a collection drive.
6. Rockaway Township UNICO

Rockaway Township UNICO unites people of Italian heritage to perform charitable, patriotic and educational deeds, all under the motto Service Above Self. The chapter recently presented $14,000 to the Rockaway Substance Abuse Alliance, awards $1,000 memorial scholarships to Morris Knolls High School students and runs an 8th grade essay contest and local food drives. Members are raising money for a 9/11 memorial bench by the Liberty Tree at Parks Lake, and new members are welcome.
7. Or Hadash

Or Hadash, founded in 1952 as White Meadow Temple, is a Conservative, egalitarian congregation at 153 White Meadow Road whose name means New Light. Its mission is to be a compassionate and inclusive community that makes Judaism relevant, meaningful and joyful, with Shabbat services, a religious school, monthly Israeli dancing and a women’s group. Many of its family programs and events are open to non-members too.
8. Historical Society of Rockaway Township

The Historical Society of Rockaway Township was founded in 1973 to preserve local history, and its signature project is the 1772 Ford-Faesch Ironmaster’s House in Mount Hope, listed on the state and national historic registers. The 501(c)(3) holds free public meetings on the first Monday of most months at 7 PM at the Rockaway Township Senior Center. Memberships start at $20, and donations go toward the general fund, the house restoration or its open-hearth Foodways program.
9. Rockaway Township Free Public Library
The Rockaway Township Free Public Library calls itself the heart of the community, with its main library at 61 Mt. Hope Road and the Hibernia Branch on Green Pond Road. Cardholders can borrow museum passes, a telescope, metal detectors and a pickleball kit from its Library of Things, and young readers can join 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten. The Friends of the Library meet on the third Friday of the month and welcome new members.
10. White Meadow Lake

White Meadow Lake has been a close-knit lake community in Rockaway Township since its property owners association formed in 1948. Its clubhouse at 100 White Meadow Road is the original Hoagland Mansion, and the association runs Camp White Meadow, a preschool, swim lessons, Hub Lakes league sports and an Over 55 Friendship Club.
