Start at the Visitor Center
Your visit begins at the Visitor Center, which includes ADA-accessible restrooms, a rotating gallery space, and a permanent exhibition called Driving into the 20th Century. From there, it’s a short five-minute walk to the farm itself, where red barns, grazing animals, and costumed interpreters help bring history to life. If walking is hard, ask about the accessible golf cart.
What to Do at Fosterfields
Once you reach the main farm area, there’s a lot to explore. Costumed staff demonstrate daily chores from the early 1900s, including butter churning, egg collecting, and crop planting. Visitors can help out or just watch and learn.

Fall Farm Fun 2026
October is the busiest month on the farm. Fall Farm Fun runs 10 AM to 3 PM on Saturday, October 3; Sunday, October 4; Saturday, October 10; Sunday, October 11; Saturday, October 17; Sunday, October 18; Saturday, October 24; Sunday, October 25; and Saturday, October 31, 2026. Expect wagon rides, a demonstration on the antique cider press, and pumpkin picking.
- Fall Farm Fun tickets are $15 per person, and children 2 and under are free. Regular $5 admission does not apply on these days.
- A pumpkin is only guaranteed if you register in advance through the Park Commission.
- October 31 is the last day of the season, so it is your final chance to visit until spring.
Guided Tours of The Willows
On certain days, a guided tour of The Willows mansion is included with admission. Built by Joseph Warren Revere, the grandson of Paul Revere, this Gothic-style home sits atop a hill with a beautiful view of the farm. Tours are offered at 11 AM and 2 PM. The walk to the house is uphill and on gravel, so if you need help, staff members are available. The first floor is wheelchair accessible, and the second floor can be explored through a 360-degree virtual tour on your phone. The house has been going through an exterior restoration, so call ahead to confirm which days tours are running.
The History of Fosterfields
The farm’s story starts in the early 1770s, when Jonathan Ogden built the original house on an 80-acre farm. In 1852 Joseph Warren Revere bought the property and built The Willows, a Gothic Revival home finished in 1854. Charles Foster began renting the estate in 1879, bought it in 1882, and renamed it Fosterfields. When he died in 1927 it passed to his only surviving child, Caroline Foster, who lived on the farm for most of her long life. In 1979 she bequeathed it to the Morris County Park Commission, and it became New Jersey’s first designated living historical farm.
