The Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey is kicking off its 2026 season with Noel Coward’s classic romantic comedy Private Lives, opening May 22 and running through June 7, 2026, at the F.M. Kirby Shakespeare Theatre at 36 Madison Avenue on the campus of Drew University in Madison, NJ.
Private Lives follows a divorced couple who reunite unexpectedly while honeymooning with their new spouses at the same hotel. Their undeniable chemistry reignites along with their old arguments, and the two impulsively abandon their new partners to run away together. The play is a fast-paced, witty exploration of love and the thin line between romance and chaos.
The production is the first of five Main Stage shows in the company’s Method and Madness season. The Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey is one of the leading Shakespeare companies in the country and serves approximately 40,000 adults and children annually from its home in Morris County.
