Trader Joe’s is coming to Parsippany. That part is settled. The company confirmed it directly, which turned a rumor that bounced around Morris County for most of the spring into fact. What is not settled is exactly where and exactly when, though every credible thread points to the Morris Hills Shopping Center on Route 46. It would be Trader Joe’s third location in Morris County, joining longtime stores in Denville and Florham Park.
What Trader Joe’s has actually confirmed
A Trader Joe’s spokesperson confirmed that the grocer will open a Parsippany location. In the same breath, the company said it had no address and no opening timeline to share.
That is the entire official record. One town, no address, no date. It is worth being precise about that, because a confirmed store and a confirmed opening are two very different things, and Trader Joe’s has sat on announced locations for a year or more before turning on the lights.
Why every sign points to the Morris Hills Shopping Center
The Morris Hills Shopping Center sits at 3047 U.S. Route 46, a busy retail stretch anchored by HomeGoods and Blink Fitness. The center’s owner, Brixmor Property Group, won Planning Board approval to renovate a run of vacant storefronts and rework the parking lot. During that hearing, the applicant’s attorney told the board that a well known, upscale grocer had committed to the site, and the plans anticipate several new tenants, including a grocery store and new restaurants. None of that is Trader Joe’s saying the words out loud. But a shopping center with a large empty box, a fresh site plan, an anchor-sized grocery tenant already signed, and a confirmed Trader Joe’s landing in the same township is about as strong as an unconfirmed report gets.
What is still unknown
Three things, and none of them are small.
The address. Trader Joe’s has not named one. Morris Hills Shopping Center is the reported site, not the announced site.
The opening date. There is no timeline, official or otherwise. Trader Joe’s typically posts a store to its own website only when it is close, usually weeks out rather than months.
The build-out. A grocery store is not a quick fit-out. Refrigeration, loading and a full interior conversion take time even after permits clear, which is why announced stores routinely take a year or more to open.
Trader Joe’s third Morris County store
Once it opens, the Parsippany location would give Morris County three Trader Joe’s stores. The others are in Denville at 3056 State Route 10 West and in Florham Park at 176 Columbia Turnpike, both listed on the Trader Joe’s New Jersey store directory. Both get busy, and both draw from well outside their own towns.
A Parsippany store would change the map in a real way. Parsippany-Troy Hills is the largest municipality in the county by population, and the Route 46 corridor pulls traffic from Montville, Boonton, Mountain Lakes, Morris Plains, Lake Hiawatha and Cedar Knolls. Fans know the chain for its private label snacks, frozen aisle, seasonal favorites, fresh flowers, and famously low prices, and a Route 46 store would put all of that closer to home for a lot of those households.
A win for the Route 46 corridor
Mayor Pulkit Desai welcomed the news, saying that another nationally known retailer reflects the strength of Parsippany’s business community. It also lands in a stretch of the township that has been in motion for a while. Topgolf opened on Route 46, and District 15Fifteen on Route 10 has been signing restaurant and wellness tenants. Whatever else is true about Parsippany, its retail is not standing still.
How to know first
The most reliable early signal is the Trader Joe’s website itself. The company lists upcoming stores with addresses once it is ready to commit, and hiring notices for a new location usually appear a month or two before the doors open. Township planning board agendas are the other tell, since any signage or interior work has to move through Parsippany-Troy Hills first.
