Basha, the Middle Eastern restaurant that has been feeding North Jersey out of Paterson since 1998, is getting ready to open in Parsippany. The signs are now up on its storefront at District 15Fifteen, the new mixed use development at 1515 Route 10, and the message on the window is hard to miss: “Parsippany, we’re grilling here soon!”
The Parsippany spot uses the shortened Basha name, but plenty of Morris County diners will already know the family behind it. Al-Basha opened in 1998 in Paterson, where founder Yaser Baker built a loyal following on home style Palestinian cooking rooted in the kitchens he grew up in around Ramallah. The flagship on Crooks Avenue is still the anchor, and the brand has since added a takeout location on Main Street in Paterson and a restaurant in the Bronx. USA Today has ranked Al-Basha among the best restaurants in America, which explains why people have been making the drive to Paterson for years.
The food is built around the grill. Al-Basha is known for fresh hummus, falafel, and kabobs, and the window wrap in Parsippany leans right into that with a big platter of grilled meats, peppers, and onions next to the line “Middle Eastern Done Right since 1998.” It is the kind of menu that works for a quick lunch off Route 10 or a long family dinner where everything goes in the middle of the table.
No opening date has been announced yet. The storefront points to the restaurant’s Instagram and TikTok at @eatbasha, along with a QR code to scan for more details, so that is the place to watch for the official day. We will update this story once the doors open.
Basha joins one of the busiest restaurant rows in Morris County. District 15Fifteen turned the former Dialogic and Intel office campus into a walkable town center with 498 apartments and nearly 60,000 square feet of shops and restaurants. Burtons Grill and Bar just opened there as the chain’s first New Jersey location, and the tenant list also includes Kura Revolving Sushi Bar, Meximodo, Haraz Coffee House, O’Bagel, Pure Green, and Home Town Creamery. We broke down the full lineup in our look at the District 15Fifteen restaurant wave.
For Parsippany families, this means one of North Jersey’s best known Middle Eastern kitchens is about to be right here in Morris County. Once Basha opens, it will sit within walking distance of the apartments, gyms, and coffee shops that have made District 15Fifteen a go to stop on Route 10.
