Halloween falls on a Saturday this year, and one of our favorite places to browse in Morris County is getting into the spirit. The Book Barn, the volunteer run used bookstore at 18 Pocono Road in Denville, is hosting Meet Me at the BOO-k Barn on Saturday, October 31, 2026, with doors opening at 9:00 AM.

The flyer promises a morning full of treats for readers of every age: Blind Date with a Book picks in horror, thriller and more, Stephen King special editions, face painting, spooky stickers and badges, limited edition totes and prizes for the kids. It is an easy way to start Halloween before the trick or treating begins, and every purchase supports local charities.

About The Book Barn

The Book Barn is part of Thrift Barns of Morris County, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit founded in 2016. It is run entirely by volunteers, and the organization says it has donated more than $1.8 million to local charities. The shelves hold more than 200,000 donated books, along with vinyl records, CDs, DVDs, puzzles, comics and games.

The building itself has a story to tell. According to The Book Barn, it was built in 1937 as a dairy barn for the Saint Francis Health Resort. Prices are famously friendly too: most paperbacks are $2 and hardcovers $3 unless specially priced, and many children’s books run from 25 cents to $1, per the store’s What We Sell page.

Plan Your Halloween Morning in Denville

Arrive early if you want first pick of the Blind Date books and the limited totes, since the barn is open on Saturdays only until 1 PM. The barn has ramps for wheelchair access, though some aisles are narrow, and the store does not allow scanning devices or resellers.

Once you have your books, there is plenty more to fill the day. Our guide to Halloween in Morris County rounds up trunk or treats, parades and haunted fun across the area, and our things to do in Morris County this weekend list covers everything else happening Halloween weekend.
