Budd Lake Diner, the all-day breakfast spot at 120 US-46 West in the Budd Lake section of Mount Olive Township, closed its doors on Tuesday, October 6, 2026. The diner shared the news Tuesday night in a post on the Budd Lake Diner Facebook page.

“We are deeply saddened to abruptly close our doors today,” the post read. “We enjoyed all of our customers for the last 4 & 1/2 years! We appreciate everyone who cared and loved us and our staff.”

The post did not give a reason for the closing or say what comes next for the Route 46 location. Within an hour, dozens of people had reacted, commented and shared it, many of them regulars saying goodbye to their usual booth.

Over the past four and a half years, the team at Budd Lake Diner ran a classic Jersey diner. It called itself “Mount Olive’s favorite neighborhood diner,” served breakfast all day, and opened at 6 a.m. on weekends. The menu ran from eggs Benedict and Grande Slam waffles to cheeseburger deluxes, chicken fingers, and milkshakes and root beer floats made to order.

The weekday early bird specials were the real draw for a lot of locals. Mornings brought a $9.95 Taylor ham, egg and cheese on a hard roll and a $15.95 BIG Breakfast with pancakes, French toast, bacon, sausage and two eggs, with coffee or tea and a small juice included. From 3 to 6 p.m., Monday through Thursday, the kitchen served early bird dinners like penne vodka, chicken Marsala and a meatloaf bowl, each with soup and the house cake of the day.

To the owners and the staff who worked those early shifts on Route 46: thank you. Neighborhood diners are where a lot of Morris County mornings start, and this one fed Budd Lake well. If you were a regular, the diner’s Facebook post is the place to leave the team a note.

Mount Olive still has plenty going on. Our local’s guide to Mount Olive covers Budd Lake, Turkey Brook Park and where to eat in the township, and Oktoberfest at the Park returns to Turkey Brook Park on Saturday, October 10 and Sunday, October 11, 2026.
