Morris County’s food scene runs deep on Mediterranean cooking, from smoky Greek souvlaki and Turkish kebabs to Lebanese mezze and Moroccan tagine. Whether you want a BYOB dinner on a patio in Morristown or a family-run grill off Route 46, here are the Mediterranean restaurants worth the drive across Morris County.

Fig & Lily Garden, Morristown

Tucked into Morristown’s artsy South Street area, Fig & Lily Garden builds its menu on authentic Eastern Mediterranean ingredients and cooking. It is a BYOB spot with a warm, modern dining room, an open-air patio, and a popular weekend brunch, which makes it an easy pick for a group dinner or a slow Sunday.

Azure The Greek Mediterranean, Morristown

A short walk away at 3 Pine Street, Azure The Greek keeps the focus on Greek classics done well, from charcoal-grilled souvlaki and gyros to spreads and moussaka. It is a welcoming choice for both a quick lunch and a sit-down family dinner.

Uncle Momo, Denville

On Broadway in downtown Denville, Uncle Momo serves Lebanese and Mediterranean plates in a cozy bistro setting. Shawarma, mezze, and even gluten-free crepes anchor the menu, the kitchen is halal, and the weekend brunch has become a local favorite.

Efsane Mediterranean Cuisine, Flanders

Out in the western part of the county on Route 206 in Flanders, Efsane is a Turkish kitchen turning out kebabs, fresh pide, grilled meats, and lentil soup. It is a newer arrival that has quickly built a following in the Mount Olive area.

ALEV Mediterranean Grill, Rockaway

A small, family-run Turkish spot on Route 46 in Rockaway, ALEV Mediterranean Grill leans on family recipes for its kebabs, baba ganoush, stuffed grape leaves, and red lentil soup. New Jersey Monthly has praised its dishes steeped in family history.

Marakesh Restaurant, Parsippany

For a night out with a little theater, Marakesh on Route 46 in Parsippany serves authentic Moroccan and Mediterranean cuisine, including lamb tagine, couscous, and kebabs, with a weekend prix-fixe menu and a belly-dancing show. The kitchen uses halal ingredients.

12 Islands Greek Taverna, Stirling

In the Stirling section of Long Hill Township, 12 Islands Greek Taverna brings a taverna feel to the southern end of the county, with grilled octopus, spanakopita, souvlaki platters, and Greek wines. It is a comfortable, sit-down room for a full Greek meal.
