Who Can Vote Early
According to the county, all registered voters in Morris County are eligible to vote early. Early voting is meant for voters who have not requested a mail-in ballot; it uses electronic poll books and voting machines. If you are not sure whether you are registered, you can check on the New Jersey Division of Elections registration lookup.
Mail-In Ballot Deadlines
Prefer to vote by mail? The New Jersey Division of Elections sets these deadlines for the 2026 General Election. Applications for a mail-in ballot sent by mail must be received by Tuesday, October 27. You can also apply in person at the Morris County Clerk’s office until 3 p.m. on Monday, November 2.
Once you have your ballot, there are three ways to return it. By mail, it must be postmarked on or before 8 p.m. on November 3 and received by the Morris County Board of Elections by Monday, November 9. You can drop it in one of the county’s secure ballot drop boxes by 8 p.m. on November 3, or hand deliver it to the Board of Elections office by 8 p.m. on November 3. The county notes that mail-in ballots cannot be returned to your polling place.
Ballot Drop Boxes
Morris County has 31 official ballot drop boxes, all outdoors and under 24/7 surveillance. They look like a USPS mailbox but are red, white and blue and marked “Morris County Official Ballot Drop Box.” The Board of Elections box at 10 Court Street in Morristown sits across the street from the Morris County Courthouse, and many towns have one at or near the municipal building. Every drop box closes at 8 p.m. on Election Day. See the full list on the county’s Ballot Drop Box Locations page. We also mapped them in our earlier guide to where to drop off your mail-in ballot in Morris County.
Election Day: Tuesday, November 3
If you would rather vote on Election Day, polls are open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, November 3, 2026. On Election Day you must vote at your assigned polling place, not at an early voting center. Find yours on the county’s Election Day Polling Places page. The county says sample ballots are being mailed on or before noon on Wednesday, October 21, and they list your district and polling location.
Questions and Accessibility
All polling places are accessible to older voters and voters with disabilities. For questions about polling places, call the Morris County Board of Elections at 973-285-6715, weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. For mail-in ballot applications, the Morris County Clerk’s office can be reached at 973-285-6126. Statewide voter information is available from the New Jersey Division of Elections or at 1-877-NJ-VOTER. The Clerk’s office also recently launched a 24/7 virtual assistant that can field general questions after hours.
