The 2026 FIFA World Cup is officially landing in our backyard, and Morris County residents are about to feel the impact whether they have tickets or not. MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford will host eight matches between June 13 and July 19, 2026, including the final, marking the first time the men’s World Cup has been played in the United States since 1994.

The schedule at MetLife runs five group stage matches starting with Brazil vs Morocco on Saturday, June 13, followed by France vs Senegal on June 16, Norway vs Senegal on June 22, Ecuador vs Germany on June 25, and Panama vs England on June 27. The Round of 32 match is set for June 30, the Round of 16 match for July 5, and the final on Sunday, July 19, 2026 at 3:00 PM ET.

For Morris County commuters, the biggest day-to-day impact will be on transit. NJ TRANSIT and the FIFA World Cup 2026 New York New Jersey Host Committee released a Regional Mobility Plan that includes major changes to the Morris and Essex Lines and Montclair-Boonton Line.

For three hours after each match, Midtown Direct service to Penn Station New York will terminate at Newark Broad Street, where riders can transfer to Newark Light Rail and PATH to continue into the city. Morris County riders heading to or from New York on match days should plan ahead and consider traveling outside peak hours when possible.

The county is also already part of the action behind the scenes. The New York Red Bulls Performance Center in Morris Township is serving as the official training facility for the Brazilian National Team during the tournament, putting one of soccer’s most decorated programs in our backyard for weeks of training sessions.

Beyond match days, the tournament is expected to bring a major economic boost to North Jersey through hotels, restaurants, and tourism. Morris County businesses near transit lines and short-term rental hosts within driving distance of MetLife are already preparing for what could be one of the busiest summers the area has seen in years.
