Morris County residents can safely and anonymously get rid of unused, unwanted or expired prescription medications on Saturday, October 24, 2026, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., when local law enforcement joins the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration’s National Prescription Drug Take Back Day. The Morris County Prosecutor’s Office is running three collection sites with the Morris County Sheriff’s Office and the Morris Plains, Morris Township and Randolph police departments.
The county’s hours match the national 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. window, and all three sites are outside supermarkets, so you can drop off old medications during a regular grocery run.
Where to Drop Off Medications on October 24
- Stop & Shop, 245 Littleton Road (Route 202), Morris Plains, NJ 07950
- ACME, 690 Millbrook Avenue, Randolph, NJ 07869
- ShopRite of Greater Morristown, 178 East Hanover Avenue, Cedar Knolls, NJ 07927
All three sites run Saturday, October 24, 2026, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. There is no cost, no sign-up and no questions asked. After the event, the Prosecutor’s Office and the Sheriff’s Office collect everything turned in and arrange for its safe destruction, according to the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office announcement.
What Is Accepted and What Is Not
Per DEA guidance, Take Back Day sites accept tablets, capsules, patches and other solid forms of prescription drugs. The DEA has also said vaping devices and cartridges can be turned in once the lithium batteries are removed. Syringes, needles and other sharps are not accepted, and neither are illicit drugs. For liquid medications such as cough syrup, the DEA advises keeping them tightly sealed in the original container. Collection sites can set their own limits, so if you are bringing liquids or anything unusual, check with the hosting police department first.
Take Back Day happens twice a year. At the last one in April 2026, the DEA reports that 4,417 collection sites nationwide took in 642,410 pounds of medication.
