Florham Park is one of the smaller towns in Morris County, but this borough between Madison, East Hanover, and Hanover Township packs in more than most people expect: a 19th century schoolhouse museum, free concerts nearly year round, the home base of the New York Jets, and a handful of dependable places to eat. Here is our local guide to spending a day in Florham Park, NJ.
Where the Name Comes From
Florham Park takes its name from Florham, the Gilded Age estate of Florence Vanderbilt Twombly and her husband, Hamilton McKown Twombly. Combine Florence and Hamilton and you get Florham. The estate’s grand mansion still stands next door and is now part of Fairleigh Dickinson University’s Florham campus.
Visit the Little Red Schoolhouse
The borough’s most recognizable landmark is the Little Red Schoolhouse at 203 Ridgedale Avenue. Built in 1866 as Columbia School District No. 5, the one room schoolhouse was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1986 and now operates as a museum of local history, with artifacts from the 1800s and 1900s and a classroom set up the way it looked generations ago. It is a quick, kid friendly stop, and it is one of the historic sites that opens to visitors during the county’s annual Pathways of History weekend.
Catch a Free Concert
Florham Park does free music better than most towns its size. In the cooler months, the Florham Park Public Library hosts its Second Sundays series of free concerts and programs, and the library also runs free adult workshops through the fall. In summer, the action moves outdoors: the borough’s long running Gazebo Concert Series brings free Sunday night shows to the Great Lawn, and 2026 marked its 46th season. Bring a blanket or a lawn chair and get there early.
Community Events at Volunteers Memorial Park
Volunteers Memorial Park on Elm Street is the borough’s main gathering spot for sports and family events. The Florham Park Jaycees run some of the town’s most popular traditions, including a spring Easter egg hunt on the park’s turf field and a Halloween Trunk or Treat, so it is worth following the Jaycees if you have little ones.
Home of the New York Jets
Florham Park is where the New York Jets live during the week. The team’s headquarters and practice facility, the Atlantic Health Jets Training Center, sits in the borough, which means you will see plenty of green and white around town on game days. It is a working facility rather than a tourist attraction, so plan to cheer them on from one of the local bars instead.
Where to Eat in Florham Park
- Florham Park Diner, 182 Ridgedale Avenue: A family run Jersey diner since George and Ginette Grapsas took it over in 1991, open seven days a week, with more than 20 daily lunch and dinner specials, homemade soups, and a well known case of cakes and pastries.
- The Thirsty Turtle, 186 Columbia Turnpike: A casual neighborhood pub with a big rotating tap list and a menu built for game day, which makes it a natural spot to watch the hometown Jets.
- Lucco Cucina & Bar: Modern Italian with New York style pizza, pastas, salads, daily specials, and a full cocktail bar, plus catering for parties.
- AKB at Archer Hotel Florham Park: The hotel’s bar and restaurant serves craft cocktails and shareable plates from breakfast through dinner, and it is open to locals, not just hotel guests.
