The Sisters of Charity of Saint Elizabeth will gather supporters from across New Jersey for their annual Harvest of Charity Celebration on Thursday, October 22, 2026, at the Park Avenue Club, 184 Park Avenue in Florham Park. About 220 guests are expected for the evening, which raises money for the ministries the Sisters carry out across the state.
The congregation is based at Convent Station in Morris Township and was founded in 1859 by Mother Mary Xavier Mehegan. For 167 years, the Sisters have served New Jersey through education, social services and pastoral care. Their current work also includes ministry to people experiencing homelessness, immigration advocacy and direct service, care for the environment, and international ministries in El Salvador and Haiti.
The fall fundraiser has long been a highlight of the Sisters’ calendar. In past years it has been a cocktail and dinner reception at the Park Avenue Club built around two awards. The Mehegan Award, named for the congregation’s founder, honors someone who lives out the charism of the Sisters of Charity through service to others. The Caritas Award takes its name from the congregation’s motto, Deus Est Caritas, meaning God is love, and recognizes people committed to Christian social action.
The list of past honorees reads like a who’s who of New Jersey and New York. It includes author Mary Higgins Clark, broadcaster Charles Osgood, New York Yankees greats Yogi Berra and Phil Rizzuto, and members of the 1986 Super Bowl champion New York Giants, among many local leaders in health care, education and business.
Tickets, sponsorships and donations are handled through the Sisters of Charity events page. Questions can go to the Office of Legacy and Mission Advancement at escharity@scnj.org or 973-290-5000. Those who cannot attend can still support the mission through the Sisters of Charity of Saint Elizabeth website.
