Parsippany’s main Halloween event is Trunk or Treat, run by the township’s Recreation Department at Smith Field. As of early August the 2026 date has not been posted yet. For reference, the 2025 edition ran Saturday, October 25, from 1 to 4 p.m., and the event has consistently landed on a late October weekend afternoon.
The format is straightforward. Families walk between decorated car trunks collecting candy, with food trucks, a pumpkin patch, music, and games filling out the rest of the field. It runs in daylight and is aimed squarely at younger kids, which makes it a gentler first Halloween outing than a night-time haunted trail.
Two things are worth knowing before you plan around it. Registration is required even though there is no admission fee, and it goes through pthreconline.com or in person at the Recreation Department office. In past years registration has closed several days before the event, so this is not a walk-up. Each child has also been asked to bring one bag of factory-sealed candy, or sealed non-food treats, with at least 50 individually wrapped pieces. That is how the township keeps the trunks stocked, and it is easy to get caught out by if you have not done it before.

Halloween itself falls on Saturday, October 31 in 2026. Parsippany’s official residential trick-or-treat hours are usually announced closer to the date through the township and the police department, and those will go here too.
