One of the best summer nights on New Jersey’s largest lake is almost here. The annual Lake Hopatcong Yacht Club fireworks return on Friday, June 26, 2026, lighting up the sky over Mount Arlington at roughly 9:30 p.m. This year the show carries a little extra meaning, lighting off in honor of America’s 250th birthday.
The display is free to watch from the shoreline, and a rain date is set for Saturday, June 27. For a lot of lake families, this is the unofficial start of summer.
What to Expect on the Lake
The fireworks are launched from a barge on the main body of the lake, between Bertrand Island and Nolan’s Point, so they are visible from a huge stretch of shoreline and from boats anchored across the open water. The Lake Hopatcong Foundation lists the show beginning around 9:30 p.m. once it is fully dark, running about half an hour.
Lake Hopatcong stretches roughly 2,500 acres across Morris and Sussex counties with more than 40 miles of shoreline, which means there is no single best spot. Boaters get the most immersive, water-level view, while the Lake Hopatcong Yacht Club on the Bertrand Island peninsula offers the most organized land-based viewing.
Where to Watch From Shore
If you are coming by car, plan to arrive early and stake out a spot well before dark. The yacht club is located at 75 North Bertrand Road in Mount Arlington. Public boat launch and beach access is available at Hopatcong State Park at the south end of the lake for anyone heading out on the water. Getting in position by 8 p.m. gives you the best shot at a clear view and an easy exit afterward.
A Community Tradition
The fireworks happen every year thanks to the Lake Hopatcong Yacht Club, which provides the facilities and on-water support, along with funding from local towns, businesses, and residents who chip in through the Fireworks Fund. Lake-area sponsors like Bridge Marina help make the night possible. Anyone who wants to support the show can email the organizers at lhycfireworks@gmail.com.
Landing the show on June 26 puts it a full week ahead of the July 4 weekend rush, so it has become a favorite early-summer night for the whole lake community. If you are mapping out the rest of your celebrations, our team has the full rundown on Mine Hill’s America 250 carnival and fireworks and Mount Olive’s Stars, Stripes and Summer Nights, which also lands on June 26.
Pack the chairs, grab the bug spray, and get down to the water early. It is one of the prettiest nights Lake Hopatcong puts on all year.
