The Riviera Maya Taco Trot 5K is coming to Roxbury this year. The chip-timed race starts at 9:30 AM on Sunday, November 22, 2026, from the Horseshoe Lake pavilion, 72 Eyland Avenue, Roxbury, NJ 07876, and every finisher gets free tacos from Riviera Maya Restaurants.
The race is open to runners and walkers. Along with the tacos, finishers receive a race beanie and a medal, and live mariachi music keeps the mood up at the finish. It is a fun alternative to a traditional turkey trot, and it lands on the Sunday before Thanksgiving, so it works as a warm up for the holiday week.
The Taco Trot has a serious purpose. Proceeds go to THINK PINK ROCKS!, a nonprofit focused on breast cancer early detection and research, and the race is held in memory of Lynette Denson.
Registration is $45 on the Taco Trot 5K page on RunSignup, with $5 off when you sign up for two or more events. Online registration closes on Sunday, November 15, and spots were limited when we checked, so sign up soon if you want in. Questions can go to the organizers at liverungivellc@gmail.com.
If you ran it last year, note the change. The 2025 Taco Trot was held in early October at County College of Morris in Randolph. For 2026 the race moved to November and to Horseshoe Lake, the Roxbury park that also hosts the annual Fall Market. Our guide to things to do in Roxbury, NJ has more on the area, and if you are looking for a Thanksgiving Day race, our roundup of turkey trots in New Jersey lists options close to home.
