Updated October 2026 by the Shop Morris County team
Plenty of help is available to Morris County veterans and military families, and a lot of it sits within a short drive of Morristown. The trouble is that it is spread across county, state, federal and nonprofit offices, each with its own phone number and its own piece of the puzzle.
So we pulled it into one place. Below are the offices that help with benefits and claims, where to get VA health care, who to call for counseling and peer support, help with housing and school, and a few places across the county to slow down, reflect and remember. Every address and phone number here comes straight from the organization that runs the service.

Places to reflect and remember
The Healing Garden at the Frelinghuysen Arboretum, Morris Township
One of the most meaningful projects in the county is taking shape at the Frelinghuysen Arboretum. Veterans Valor of New Jersey, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, is building The Healing Garden there in collaboration with the Morris County Park Commission, Rotary District 7475 and local veteran and health organizations. The garden is designed as a place of peace for military veterans, active duty service members, first responders and their families. Its first phase, The Gateway Entry Plaza, is complete, and more gardens are planned.
Veterans Valor also keeps a helpful list of hotlines and support services on its veteran resources page, covering many of the same lifelines in this guide plus national options. The arboretum is at 353 East Hanover Avenue in Morris Township and is open daily from 8 AM to sunset. Pets are not allowed on the grounds.
Morristown National Historical Park, Morristown
Morris County’s military story goes back to the Continental Army, which spent winters here during the American Revolution. Morristown National Historical Park tells that story at the Washington’s Headquarters Museum at 30 Washington Place and at the Jockey Hollow Visitor Center at 586 Tempe Wick Road. There is no entrance fee, and the grounds are open year round except Thanksgiving Day, December 25 and New Year’s Day. It is a quiet, moving place to bring a veteran or a young person curious about service.
Veterans organizations
Morris County has an active network of veterans groups, including posts of the American Legion, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Marine Corps League and Vietnam Veterans of America, along with the American Veterans of Washington Township, Post 1776. They are a great way to find camaraderie and to give back. The VFW’s post locator is an easy place to find the one nearest you, and the county Veterans Services Office can point you to others.
