Cliff’s Homemade Ice Cream (Ledgewood)
1475 US-46, Ledgewood. Cliff’s has been making ice cream by hand since 1975, and it is still the name most people in the county say first. You will find more than 60 hand-dipped flavors plus soft serve, all served from the classic walk-up window on Route 46. It stays busy year-round, so expect a line on a warm night. Best-of lists across New Jersey keep putting Cliff’s near the top.
Denville Dairy (Denville)
34A Broadway, Denville. A downtown Denville staple known for homemade ice cream and its legendary ice cream cakes. Families line up all summer for cones and pints of flavors like Swiss chocolate, mud pie, and strawberry cheesecake. Note that Denville Dairy is closed Mondays, so plan your visit for Tuesday through Sunday.
Beenie’s Ice Cream (Morristown)
38 Morris Street, Morristown. Beenie’s is Morristown’s go-to for inventive, super-premium homemade flavors. Think creative combinations alongside the classics, plus shakes, cakes, and novelties. It is a short walk from the Green, which makes it an easy stop after dinner downtown.
Taylor’s Ice Cream Parlor (Chester)
18 Main Street, Chester. Set in the middle of historic downtown Chester, Taylor’s serves rich, dense homemade ice cream in more than 50 flavors, along with custom cakes. The old-fashioned parlor feel makes it a natural pairing with a day of shopping and browsing in Chester. Up in Towaco, Diane’s Dairy at 446 Main Road is another homemade favorite, with 75 flavors and custom ice cream cakes.
Curly’s Ice Cream & Frozen Yogurt (Boonton)
121 Monroe Street, Boonton. A family-run neighborhood favorite in Boonton, Curly’s has been scooping homemade ice cream and frozen yogurt for years. It is open seven days a week and is one of the anchors of a night out in walkable downtown Boonton.
Scoops The Chatham Creamery (Chatham)
228 Main Street, Chatham. Scoops serves Gifford’s award-winning ice cream from Maine and stands out for how seriously it takes allergies, with clearly labeled vegan, nut-free, and lactose-free options. That makes it one of the easiest stops in the county for families juggling different dietary needs.
Below Zero Degrees (Rockaway)
13 Wall Street, Rockaway. Below Zero Degrees is the county’s spot for rolled ice cream, made to order on a cold plate right in front of you, plus a full boba menu.
