Morristown Medical Center is the most recognized hospital in the country in Healthgrades’ 2027 awards, Atlantic Health announced on Tuesday, October 27, 2026. The hospital at 100 Madison Avenue in Morristown earned seven “#1 in NJ” state rankings on top of dozens of national specialty distinctions.
That matters because of how Healthgrades scores hospitals. Its ratings are built on objective clinical outcomes, specifically risk-adjusted mortality and complication rates, across more than 30 common conditions and procedures at roughly 4,500 hospitals nationwide. Reputation surveys are not part of the formula.
Atlantic Health says Morristown is also the only hospital in the United States to earn this particular combination: Excellence Awards in Cardiology, Cardiac Care, Cardiac Surgery and Coronary Intervention, plus America’s 100 Best Hospitals for Joint Replacement, Orthopedic Surgery and Stroke Care, and America’s 50 Best Hospitals for Outpatient Joint Replacement and Outpatient Orthopedic Surgery.
Morristown’s 2027 honors
The hospital’s Healthgrades profile lists its 2027 awards. In the top tier, it was named one of America’s 50 Best Hospitals for Cardiac Surgery, Emergency Hospitalization, Surgical Excellence, Outpatient Joint Replacement and Outpatient Orthopedic Surgery. It also made America’s 100 Best Hospitals for Cardiac Care, Coronary Intervention, Critical Care, Gastrointestinal Care, Gastrointestinal Surgery, Joint Replacement, Orthopedic Surgery, Pulmonary Care and Stroke Care. Excellence Awards round it out in Cardiology, Cranial Neurosurgery, Gastrointestinal Medical, Neurosciences, Outpatient Prostate Care and Spine Surgery.
Chilton Medical Center in Pompton Plains
Morris County’s other Atlantic Health hospital, Chilton Medical Center at 97 West Parkway in Pompton Plains, was named one of America’s 100 Best Hospitals for Critical Care for the fifth year in a row (2023 through 2027). Atlantic Health says Chilton ranked No. 4 in New Jersey for critical care and No. 5 for gastrointestinal surgery, and was named among the top 10% in the nation for cardiology services for the third straight year. Its Healthgrades profile also lists 2027 Excellence Awards in Cardiology and Gastrointestinal Surgery.
A third straight year on top in New Jersey
Across the system, Atlantic Health earned the most “#1 in NJ” state rankings from Healthgrades for the third year in a row. Its Overlook Medical Center in Summit was named the fifth most recognized hospital in the country, with five No. 1 state rankings of its own.
“These outstanding recognitions from Healthgrades are a wonderful celebration of Atlantic Health’s place as a national and regional leader in providing high-quality, innovative and personalized care to our patients,” Saad Ehtisham, president and CEO of Atlantic Health, said in the release.
The Healthgrades news follows another national nod a month earlier. On September 25, Atlantic Health announced that Morristown Medical Center and its Goryeb Children’s Hospital were named a top performer in Vizient’s 2026 Bernard A. Birnbaum, MD, Quality Leadership Ranking for pediatric hospitals, placing fourth among eight top performers in that cohort.
